Batteries and accumulators are household hazardous waste

By law all consumers are obliged to return waste batteries to a retail outlet or they can be taken to a special hazardous wast collection point. In Switzerland a mandatory advanced disposal fee (VEG) is included in the selling price of all type of batteries.

Battery Recycling

Batteries contain valuable raw materials that can be extracted, recycled and usable materials can be recovered. Batteries can also contain a number of heavy metals and toxic waste. It is illegal to thrown away with your trash. Any type of batteries is household hazardous waste and needs to be discarded correctly. You may return used batteries to any retail point selling batteries, or dispose at a household hazardous waste collection point. Any improper disposal is prohibited. A correct disposal of batteries will help to prevent potential negative consequences for the environment and human health and to recover battery components that can be reused after further processing.
